08/04/2007 - Inverness, Scotland (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Barry Ferguson netted two goals to lead Rangers over Inverness, 3-0, at Caledonian Stadium on Saturday in the Scottish Premier League opener.

Nacho Novo also scored for Rangers, which are hoping to win the league title for the first time since the 2004-2005 campaign.

Ferguson opened up the scoring in the 16th minute with a hard shot off of the post from 21 yards away.

Novo entered the match as a substitute and in the 64th minute made it a 2-0 affair with a shot from inside the penalty area, before Ferguson capped off the scoring in the final minute.

"All three goals were of the highest quality, but the main point for me is that we actually played quite well," said Rangers manager Walter Smith.

Despite, the solid start from Rangers, Kris Boyd had a tough afternoon. The veteran picked up a yellow card in the 11th minute and then early in the second half had to leave the match with an ankle injury.

"It is a bit early for us to decide on Kris, but he is obviously a doubt for the next game," said Smith. "He went over on his ankle and tried to carry on, but eventually had to come off."

The Rangers, which were without Steven Whittaker and Andy Webster due to suspension, captured the full three points from Inverness for the first time in four matches.

In other SPL matches on Saturday: Steven McGarry scored the sole goal to lift Motherwell over St Mirren 1-0, David Robertson found the back of the net in the final minute to lead Dundee United past Aberdeen, 1-0 and Gretna was welcomed to the top flight rudely by Falkirk in a 4-0 result at Fir Park.

Celtic will have to wait until Sunday to defend its SPL title as Kilmarnock travels to Celtic Park. Mark Brown will get the start in net for Celtic as starting keeper Artur Boruc is still not fit from a shoulder injury.

The opening weekend will be capped off on Monday as Hibernian travels to Hearts.
